There are just so many different things I want to make. I'm slowly working through a list, but here are some of the things I've made so far.....

It's been a long time since I've updated this blog and it feels really strange to be back on Blogger (I've moved on to Wordpress these days). I've been very busy with my other blog, Peek & Ponder. That blog just keeps growing and giving me opportunities I never thought I'd have. I'm very proud of the work I've done with it. Alongside that, I've been creating and listing items in my Etsy shop a lot lately. It feels good to take a step back from the computer to just create something physical with my hands.

I've been crocheting mostly. I like the way it looks, more so than loom knitting and I feel like I have more freedom with it. Loom knitting can be very limiting. I feel like I have so many more options with crochet.

My grandma used to crochet a lot - it was one of her passions. I inherited her crochet hooks when she passed on and I know she'd be really proud to see that I've put them to use. I still have a blanket she crocheted for me when I was a little girl. One side is baby pink and the other side is baby blue. It's something I'll always cherish. Using her hooks is bittersweet though. I love that I'm keeping the memory of her alive, but I wish she could be here to see what I've made and where I am in life. She saw me graduate high school, but didn't get to see me grow into an adult.

Moving forward, I'm not sure how much I'll be posting here. I want to update as much as I can, but my priority is my other blog. It's basically a business and I have to put most of my energy into it if I want it to be successful. Success does not come with minimal effort. I'm working day, night, and weekends, but still trying to have a life. The more I work, the more success and opportunities I get. And that means less time for side projects, like this blog.

In my next post, I'll share some of the things I've crocheted lately. To stay updated on my creations, follow me on Instagram. I post pretty frequently there.

I'm getting crafty this Christmas and making my own gift tags. I normally buy the big packs of cute gift tags at Costco and I still even have a bunch left from last year, but this time I wanted to put my own touch on them.

I picked out some blank tags from Jo-ann. I also bought a bunch of supplies from Michael's and Jo-ann to decorate the tags with. I used glitter, foam shapes, sequins, paper, washi tape, and other things I already had. Sharpie pens were great for this project too.

I feel like adding your own personal touch to a wrapped gift makes it that much more special. I had so much fun with this project! The homemade characteristics of the tags are what make them so unique and there are limitless ways to create them with the supplies you have. I could probably make a couple hundred tags that would all look different.

Here are some of the gift tags I made:

I'm likely to make many more of these this year, even if I don't need them. It puts me in a festive mood and I get to use my creativity!Ashleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12526305083976657917noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1158562412396160472.post-37104298217011161872013-07-24T21:07:00.000-07:002013-07-24T21:08:15.695-07:00Painting: Abstract and ColorfulThose who know me, know that I'm very much into art - creating and observing. It's always been "my thing", ever since I was a little girl. I took all kinds of art classes growing up and continued in high school and college. Art is very much a part of my life in present day as well. I express myself through it.

I like to paint and draw mostly. I started painting seriously in high school when I took an abstract art class. I painted 3 huge canvases with colorful acrylics. I let my mom put them up on the wall at her work when she was a school librarian. Everyone always made comments that I should sell my work. I never thought I'd be interested in selling because I get very attached. As an artist, you spend a lot of time on your pieces and pour your emotions into them. It's like taking all of your deep inner thoughts and displaying them for everyone to see and critique. It's not so easy to part with that. .

Now I've started to take painting up again. I'm not sure if I'll sell any of my work. It really depends on people's interest. I am open to it though.

Here's a piece I painted recently.

To me, my paintings always look unfinished. I battled with myself over whether I should add more or leave it alone and even looking at it now, I'm still wondering if it needs to be tweaked.

When you do abstract work, you want there to be movement in your piece. The goal is for the eye to move all over and not just stay in one place. That was something that was present in my mind when creating this piece. Another thing I considered when painting this, was color balance. All the colors you see are used throughout the whole piece and complement each other. I always use lots of color in my work (except for my pencil drawings).

Does this piece have a specific meaning? Not a simple one, no. Some might think it looks like a feather; others might see something deeper in it. Everyone will have their own opinions. For me, I can't describe in words what it means. It just makes sense to me. Art has its own language.

I'm on my fourth month of sharing my survey earnings. Actually, this one is a little bit late since we're in mid-June and this is my earnings report for May. So there may be some June earnings included with the current numbers, but I still wanted to share my progress!
This site still remains one of my favorites. I mostly earn by reading emails (which are super quick), searching the web, taking surveys, and by referrals. The cashout threshold is $30 and I'm not far from it. You automatically earn $5 when you sign up!
The reason I like this site is because you can earn money really quickly with referrals. You get $5 for every person you refer - so if you refer just 10 people, that's $50! I've also earned with reward mail and studies (surveys). This site offers evaluations that pay really well too - usually you have to complete offers like signing up for a service or buying a product.
This is one of the sites I've been able to cashout on so far. On Swagbucks, you can cashout pretty early. I love this site. There are tons of ways to earn Swagbucks and it's fun! I search the web, take daily polls, take surveys, watch videos, etc. Searching the web and taking surveys will earn Swagbucks very quickly.
Hits4Pay is a unique site and sort of hard to understand at first. You only have to click emails and view the advertiser's site for a couple minutes while you're being credited. It's very simple, but takes some time to build up earnings. The best way to earn more quickly is to refer people.
This site is awesome! I only started in April and I've already been able to cashout. The cashout threshhold is only $15 and it doesn't take long to reach it. Also, the surveys are really quick - all under 5 minutes! You also take trait surveys that earn a traitscore. When that score gets higher, you earn more. It's a simple site and I really enjoy using it. You can earn up to $25 for every friend you refer.
Other Sites Worth Mentioning

I-Say
I haven't been using this one as much because the surveys can be kind of long. However, I've cashed out a lot in the past ($65 worth). I've been on this site the longest and I still like it, but just don't have tons of time for it.

NPD Online Research
I started with this site recently. The surveys don't take long, but they earn you points to use for sweepstakes. I wasn't into it at first ....until I won a $50 VISA card! Now I'm using it all the time.

Pinecone Research
This site is hard to get into. You have to be invited or happen to find one of their banner ads to sign up. I actually found a banner with some googling. They're not always accepting new members though. I've heard for years that this one is the best survey site to join. I've taken some surveys and even been able to do a product test already. They have a huge rewards catalogue too.

NCP Panel
For this panel, you have to use their device to scan all of your purchases every week to submit to them. They don't just take anyone either. You have to apply and if they need people in your area, they might choose you. I was chosen, but after receiving the equipment in the mail, I realized I wasn't going to commit to scanning purchases weekly. They asked for the equipment back and I knew I just didn't have time or energy for it, so back it went. I'm totally okay with that.

---------------------------------------------------------

So that concludes my monthly update. If I were to suggest three sites to sign up for they would be Swagbucks, PaidViewpoint, and Inbox Dollars. I recommend giving each site a try if you can. They won't bring in loads of money and it can be a slow process, but what you earn depends on how much effort/time you put in. My earnings could be higher, but I have other things to work on as well.Ashleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12526305083976657917noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1158562412396160472.post-63747275979564199972013-06-14T17:03:00.000-07:002013-06-14T17:03:29.275-07:00Whimseybox Review

I've been subscribed to Whimseybox (a monthly craft box) for a few months. I actually cancelled my subscription for a number of reasons, which I will explain. First, I'll give a rundown of the service and boxes.

About Whimseybox

Whimseybox is $15/month. Each month, a box comes in the mail with a DIY project inside. The supplies are provided along with instructions for each project. You can select what type of projects you'd like to receive in your boxes when you sign up (i.e. sewing, crochet, scrapbooking, etc.). The boxes are sent out at the end of the month.

Box 1 - February: Memo Board
The project for February was a DIY memo board project that came with wooden boards, washi tape, and rubber bands. You can find my full review of it here. I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of the supplies, nor did I think it was worth the money I paid. I can sew a few tote bags for that amount.
Since it was my first month, I wasn't quite ready to throw in the towel yet.

Box 2 - March: String Art
March's project was a string art project. I was given nails, a block of wood, string, and a few patterns. I started the project but wasn't able to finish it because I wasn't given enough nails to complete the project for the pattern I chose.. They didn't mention that any of the patterns would require more nails than provided.
I didn't review it since I didn't get around to finishing. I figured I would just review the next box and skip this one.

Box 3- April: ?
April's box didn't come. I'm actually still waiting on it. I was contacted by the company that the box would be sent out late and that I would get May's box around the same time. May's box came but there was no sign of April's. So, I emailed them to see what was going on and they informed me that the box will still be sent out, but they had no control over when. They refunded me for April without me even asking, so I was happy about that.

Box 4 - May: Lip Balm
May's box contained supplies to make lip balm. I was actually pretty excited about this one. Some of you may know that I have another blog that focuses solely on beauty. This project was right up my alley. The box contained beeswax, peppermint oil, metal tins, etc. It was a quick project and I enjoyed it, although I didn't follow the instructions completely. I posted the project on my other blog - find it here. I even made a little video to show the process.

May Whimseybox project

Also, I noticed the box that the project came in was more simple than previous boxes - not as luxurious (for lack of a better word). I read that they were trying to cut down on packaging costs to bring their subscribers better projects. That's actually great news to hear because I remember thinking my money was going to the nice boxes instead of the projects.

Why did I end my subscription?
I felt that I wasn't getting the greatest value for $15. The first two projects weren't worth it in my eyes. I also didn't like that the projects weren't sent out until the end of each month. My box wouldn't arrive until the middle of the next month, so I felt like I was constantly behind. The whole reason I subscribed was to have something cool to share on this blog each month, but I don't like posting a project in June that was meant for May. Also, I was bummed that my April box didn't come at all.

Will I subscribe again?
I might in the future when I feel like there has been time for improvements of the service. I'm not totally ruling it out, but I'd rather save $15 for something else than get a project I'm not thrilled about. I know there are a few other monthly craft boxes out there, so I might try one of those.

I don't want to scare anyone away from the service. If you'd like to try it, you should. Your experience might be completely different than mine. If you are interested in signing up, you can do it here. Right now, they're giving 3 free rolls of washi tape to new subscribers!
This is the third month that I'm sharing my survey earnings. I have stopped using a couple sites because I didn't feel they were worth the time. I also added a new one. Read on to find out more about the sites I'm using.
How I earned: Reading emails, referral rewards, surveys, searching the web, watching videos

This is still one of my favorite sites to use. For the emails, you don't have to view them for a certain amount of time in order to be credited (for some other sites you do). You just click, it redirects you to the site that's being advertised, and you're automatically credited. There are more ways to earn than what I've done too. You can print/redeem coupons, play games, and complete offers. When you sign up, you get $5!
How I earned: Studies and referrals

For some reason my earnings decreased a few cents since last month. It could be because certain earnings weren't authorized or something. This site has evaluations, which are like offers, as well as studies, which are surveys. I usually do the studies, but the evaluations seem to pay really well. I also like that you earn $5 for every referral. If you were to just refer 5 people, that's $25!
This remains my favorite rewards site! It's fun and you can earn swagbucks really quickly. There are so many ways to earn that it's too much to write here. The best ways to earn a good chunk of swagbucks at a time are by searching the web and taking surveys. For 2500 swagbucks, I can cash out for $25 paypal already. I'm letting it build up though.
How I earned: Taking shorts surveys

This is a site I just started using this month and I absolutely love it. They give you short surveys (I'm talking less than 5 minutes each!) and you can earn up to $25 for each referral you make. They also give you trait surveys to get to know more about you and that earns you a traitscore. When you're traitscore gets high, you'll earn more per answer. I get 1-2 surveys a day. I haven't had to spend much time on it at all and there's a low cashout threshhold.
So those are all the sites I'm focusing on right now. I'm liking PaidViewpoint and Swagbucks the most, but they're all great. Since I've been active on these sites for awhile, I'm thinking of doing a rundown of each individual site in future posts because I could go a lot more in-depth about them.
Of course, as soon as I say that a purchase will be made and that statement will no longer be true. That isn't so much of a problem in my eyes though! I 've made 5 more sales since my last update when I hit the magical "50 sales milestone".

I noticed lately that people were mostly buying two things: sunglass cases and loom knit bags. I've been working on making more of those items, but instead of loom knit bags (which can take some time), I'm concentrating on getting more sewn fabic bags listed. I love picking out fabric and sewing the bags. They're a lot of fun.

This is the count for what I've sold so far:
Eyeglass cases - 8
Bags - 12
Scarves - 28
Headbands - 4
Coaster sets - 3

Scarves take the cake in my shop, but while the weather is hot, I won't be making or listing anymore than I have (there are 16 right now!).
These simple totes are great. I made a couple to keep already. During the summer, I live at the pool and the lake and these are perfect for carrying my outdoor essentials (usually sunscreen, a magazine, my phone + headphones, a snack, etc.). I add 2 pockets to these bags - pockets are a must!

Goals for this month:
-Get to 70 items listed! I'm slowly working up to 100. If this was the only thing I worked on, I could definitely get there quicker. A lot of my time goes to my beauty blog.

-Be more active on social media! As a blogger, social media is half of my job; I'm constantly updating to stay relevant. For my Etsy shop, I tend to neglect that aspect.

That's a small amount for some shops, but a huge victory for me. I never considered the idea that I'd stick with my shop for so long. I opened it randomly because I had a bunch of handmade scarves on my hands that I had no idea what to do with. I figured there was no harm in listing them. Now I have expanded my inventory to include sunglass cases, bags, headbands, and household items.

I've thought about closing shop a couple times when things got slow, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I love creating my crafts and sharing them with people. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment when I list these items I've actually made myself and then when people buy them, it makes me so proud.

I look forward to the next 50 sales and expanding my shop even more. I've now starting adding sewn tote bags that I think people will love for summer. I have my eye on a couple more sewing patterns as well. I won't be leaving the loom knit/woven items behind though. My looms are still being used like crazy! Sometimes it's just fun to change it up a little.
I want to continue to share my earnings with you to show you that you can make a little extra money from these sites, so I'm doing a monthly update. Here are my current earnings.

Inbox Dollars
Total Amount Earned: $14.59

I like this site a lot. I've earned money using their search, taking surveys, and reading email. I'm about halfway to cashing out. If you sign up, you automatically get $5!

Vindale Research
Total Amount Earned: $18.40

I earned pretty quickly at first and now it has slowed down. I still like this site though. I earned $5 just for referring someone. I also earned by taking surveys and reading emails.

Swagbucks
Total Amount Earned: 1780 swagbucks

This site is my favorite, as I've said before. It's so easy to earn "swagbucks" and there are tons of ways to earn them. Besides that, it's a fun site! I earn the most by searching the web.
This site requires the least amount of effort. You just read emails from your inbox on the site. You click on the link in the email, it takes you to the advertiser's site, you view it until you're credited, then you go to the next one. It's too easy!

Cashcrate
Total Amount Earned: $0.79

I haven't spent much time with this one, obviously. I've heard it's a good site, but I'm not really getting into it. There are a lot of offers, but I don't want to sign up for a million things. I might just forget about this one.

I-Say
Total Amount Earned: 505 points

I've been signed up with I-Say for a couple years. I've already cashed out for $65 worth of rewards. I opted for both Paypal and Amazon credit. I've also been able to try cool products in exchange for my opinions! This is a really great site. You even get points for every survey you don't qualify for.

Total earned: $64.07

The total amount includes the cash and point value of everything I've earned so far.
I don't have a lot of time to commit to surveys, which is why I'm only signed up for these few reward sites. There are tons of these sites though. If I devoted more time to them, I could earn more quickly.
Since I'm not dependent on this money, I'm going to let it build up over time. I'm in no rush to cash out yet. It's almost like keeping a rainy day fund or a savings stash!
Whimseybox is a monthly craft box. You get a box for $15, mailed to you every month with a project inside (as long as you're subscribed to the service). Keep reading to find out more.
The box itself was a good quality box. It even had a place to put a label so you can reuse it after the project was done.
February's box contained supplies and instructions to make memo boards. It came with pinback buttons, colored rubberbands, wooden boards, a notepad, and 2 rolls of washi tape.

My Thoughts

I love the idea of a monthly craft box and I thought the packaging was done really well. I felt that the supplies for the project were lacking. For $15, I'd like something more. I felt like this was something I could've created with things around the house or from the dollar store. I would've liked more to work with or better quality supplies. This felt more like a kid project. I'm not sure if it was worth $15, but it was my first month. I'd like to try another month or two to get a better feel for the service. On the website you can see other projects from other months and most of them look pretty cool. I'm excited to see what project comes in this month's box.

I kept the bag for myself and since then, I've made 3 more. These totes are ideal for carrying just about anything. They're reversible and include a pocket that can hold cell phones, pens/pencils, sunglasses, etc. I'll be using mine as a pool bag this summer.

I've already listed one of the bags in my shop: Chevron Reversible Tote Bag
I mentioned that I would do monthly updates on what I've earned on the survey/reward sites I'm signed up for.
These are my earnings for February 2013 along with my thoughts on each site:

Inbox Dollars
Amount Earned: $11.02
How I earned: Reading email, clicking ads, completing surveys, searching the web

This site is great. When you don't qualify for a survey, you can "Spin to Win" for various rewards. You get daily emails that you just have to click on to earn money. You also get daily survey opportunities. It's really easy to earn money on here and it doesn't require tons of time.

Vindale Research
Amount Earned: $13.20
How I earned: Surveys, completing offers, reading email

I've earned the most on this site so far. There are evaluations that pay out well (you usually have to pay for a service/product and evaluate it - depending on the evaluation, you could earn back the money you paid plus more). There are plenty of studies (or surveys) as well that don't cost anything. You also get daily emails that pay you just for looking at them.

Swagbucks
Amount Earned: 1,260 SB
How I earned: Watching videos, daily polls, completing offers, searching the web, etc.

This site is my favorite. It's easy and fun. You earn swagbucks just for doing simple things, like taking the daily poll or visiting a facebook page. There are so many ways to earn swagbucks including everything I mentioned above plus taking surveys, shopping, completing tasks, etc. I could already redeem my points for a $10 gift card but I'm saving them up for now.

Memolink
Amount Earned: 764 pts
How I earned: Joining, taking a survey, completing my profile

I haven't gotten into this site much. It doesn't seem like it's as easy to earn on this site nor are there as many opportunities to earn like the other sites. I have a long way to go before I can cash out.

Cashcrate
Amount Earned: $0.45
How I earned: Cash tasks

I've barely earned anything on this one! Like Memolink, I haven't spent much time on it. I have to test it out a little more to see if I like it and how easily I can earn on it.

Hits4pay
Amount Earned: $5.20
How I earned: Signing up, reading email

At first, I was confused by this site. You're supposed to get paid for reading emails, but after opening them and clicking I wasn't getting credit. I went back to it and now it's working, so I'm a little behind on this one. It's easy to earn money on here; I'll stick with it for awhile.

Total cash earned this month: $29.87

That's not a bad amount and that's not even counting the sites that pay with points. If you include Swagbucks, which is worth a $10 gift card (1000 points), that adds up to $39.87! Pretty good for my first month on these sites. It's great to make a little extra money this way if you have some time.

There may be a couple that I won't continue with if I don't think they're worth it. I don't want to spend too much time on these sites. It's nice when you're able to do more than just surveys to earn rewards because surveys can eat up a lot of time. Many of them can take 30-45 minutes. I definitely don't want to devote that much time to a survey. Of course there are surveys that take less time too.

I'll be updating again next month on my earnings with these sites. If you're looking to join any of them, I would recommend Swagbucks, Inbox Dollars, and Vindale. Let me know if there are any survey/reward sites you like that I didn't mention!
I've compiled a list of the ways I like to make money online and what has worked for me. These ideas will make you money if you put in the time and effort!

Write a Blog
I've been blogging for just about 2 years now (my beauty blog, Peek & Ponder) and I would consider it the best decision I've made. I've received a lot of free products, been paid for assignments/campaigns, and earned money through ad revenue, not to mention connected with some awesome people!

You can start a blog for free on a few different sites. I use Blogger for my blogs. Then run ads (you can sign up for Google Adsense right from your blog) and start earning money from clicks and impressions.

Blogging is a great creative outlet and will bring lots of cool opportunities if you put in the work. Don't expect to get great opportunities from the start though. It takes a lot of hard work, patience, and dedication, but it can be very rewarding if you stick with it.

Sponsored Tweets
If you have a Twitter account you can sign up for Sponsored Tweets. It's a site that connects you to sponsors who pay you to tweet about them. Sponsors will pay you based on your follower count.

Sell Your Crafts
Start an Etsy shop to sell your items that are handmade, vintage, or supplies. Signing up for a shop is free. For handmade items, you can sell all kinds of things: greeting cards, graphic designs, patterns, furniture, art, jewelry, and the list keeps going. You pay $ 0.20 per listing and a small percentage when an item sells. I've had my Etsy shop, Sparkleknit (check it out here), for a year and a half and have sold quite a bit there.

If you want to start a shop but don't know where to start, take a look at the site and the forums. There's lots of great info on everything you need to know like SEO, pricing, shipping, and photograhpy. I started out knowing very little about running a shop and learned along the way.

Sell on Ebay
Everyone knows this method, but I had to include it! I use Ebay from time to time to sell things I don't want or need anymore. I've already started on some Spring cleaning and have a few items to list. It's pretty easy and a great way of making money on things you already have. I recently sold some printer ink from an old printer. Dig through your drawers and look through your closet - I bet you'll find something you could sell.

Get Paid to Shop!
Online shopping is huge, almost everyone does it. Sometimes you just don't have the time or energy to go out and shop or maybe you're into browsing online for fun. If you do shop online, you could be getting cash back on your purchases!

Ebates
With Ebates you get cash back when you shop online. There are different percentages for each store/site and over 1500 stores to choose from. Sometimes you'll even get double cash back. You just log into your Ebates account, choose the store you want to shop, you'll be redirected to the store's site, and then you can shop as you normally would. You'll get credit for your purchase after a day or two. You also get bonuses for referring people and you'll be paid quarterly. I just got paid $31.00 that I made from my online Christmas purchases.

Survey/Reward Sites
You may or may not have heard about making money through taking online surveys and you're probably thinking it sounds too good to be true. It's not! You can sign up for sites, take surveys/do others tasks, and earn rewards like gifts cards or cash! There are tons of sites out there but here are the ones I'm using right now.

Swagbucks
I just got into this one this month. You can earn Swagbucks by taking surveys, watching videos, playing games, searching the web, shopping, and doing various tasks. Swagbucks are super easy to earn and you can earn Swagbucks from your referrals too. It's a really fun site!

Vindale Research
Vindale is a survey site that pays cash for various evaluations, surveys, videos, and reward mail. You can earn $5-75 per evaluation. You also earn $5 for every friend you refer. Get $5 for signing up.

Inbox Dollars
With Inbox Dollars, you get paid for taking surverys, playing games, shopping online, searching the web, and redeeming coupons. Once you reach $30 you can cash out and when you refer your friends you'll get 10% of their qualified earnings. You also get a $5 signup bonus.

Memolink
Take surveys, shop, and get easy points to redeem for cash and gift cards. You also get 50 points for every referral and 10% of their shopping points for a year.

Hits4Pay
Hits4Pay is a little different. You make money just by viewing ads. It's so easy! You just have to keep the ad open until you're credited. You'll make $0.02 per ad, which doesn't seem like much but they send a handful a day. You earn more with referrals too.

CashCrate
Earn cash for completing offers, taking surveys, doing tasks, etc. Your referrals earn you 20% of whatever they make and 10% of whatever their referrals make. Also you get a $3.00 bonus when your referrals make their first $10.00.

I decided that I might make a monthly update on how much I've made from these survery sites. Is that something you'd like to see? I'll make my first update at the end of this month.

Conclusion
There are tons of ways to make money online - these ideas are only a small percentage of opportunities out there. I hope I've introduced to you some new methods of earning. If you haven't tried any, I recommend that you pick at least one from the list to try. You might be surprised by how rewarding it is!
Normally, I work with yarn to make all kinds of loom knit items. This time, I decided to do some work with my sewing machine. I found a pattern for a basic sewn tote bag and I knew right away that I wanted to make it. So, I took myself over to Jo-Ann and picked out some fabric. I picked a bright pink, a deep purple with golden dots, and a pale pink with white hearts.

It's a reversible tote with a pocket on the inside.
I love this bag! Even though it can be considered a Valentine's bag, I'm perfectly fine using it throughout the year. I think it will be perfect for day trips, carrying books/magazines, holding my knit projects, and many other things. When I was younger, I would've considered this the perfect bag to bring along on sleepovers. I wish I could've had it then!

This year my aim is to organize and use space effectively. One area that desperately needed some cleaning up was my yarn stash. I have a plastic drawer unit that I keep all of my yarn in, but it was a mess from the beginning. At first, it was just a place to throw my leftovers. Now that I'm trying to use up my extra yarn, I want to be able to pick one out without having to dig through a tangled mess.

Here is a drawer before I reorganized it...

If "stress" was a physical being, it would probably look something like this.

I took everything out and separated each yarn ball, skein, and scrap. I wound up the smaller amounts of yarn into balls. It didn't take too long and it was a better option than having a bunch of loose piles thrown together.

Then for the extra small scraps I used an idea I found on Pinterest. I found a pin where scraps of yarn were wrapped on clothespins. I thought it was an excellent idea so I grabbed some clothespins and did the same. It made a huge difference!

Now my drawer is so much more tidy and easy to look through.

I'll be able to easily find what I need and focus on creating cool pieces with my yarn instead of digging through a chaotic mess.

The weather has become colder and my shop has gotten busier. Scarves are what I sell the most of in fall and winter. They make great gifts and can be made in every color imaginable. I wanted to share a few scarves that sold recently as gifts for the holidays.

I made this scarf for a custom order. It was a Christmas gift for a guy.

I love the colors. It's definitely a suitable accessory for men. I would describe the colors as rustic. It came out flat, tightly knit, and fairly lightweight. I wish I had 5 more of these scarves on hand to sell. I plan to make more though.

Another great scarf for men that I sold recently is this brown and red striped scarf.

It's also flat and knit tightly. It was the first striped scarf I made and I think it came out really well.

This next scarf I knew would not be available for long. It's a deep purple scarf with little confetti pieces throughout. It didn't sell on my Etsy shop, but instead in person. It's a gorgeous scarf. The pictures don't do it enough justice. It was also one of my more pricey scarves.

It was flat and long. This one was a lot more weighty than others but very soft and silky. I would consider this scarf as more of a fashion scarf. I want to make a few more of these as well.

I love scarves. Even if you aren't giving them as gifts, they're a great cold weather accessory to have in your own wardrobe.

I stopped posting on it only because I was busy working on other projects. I'm still working on those projects, but I miss posting on this blog, so I will try my best to update it as much as I can.

Update on my shop:
I'm still selling my loom knit and loom woven pieces. I'm at 42 sales total, which is great. I can't wait to make more and sell more. I'm working on it constantly.

Here's a slideshow of loom knit bags I made for my shop.
I started out last year knitting on looms and now I also weave on looms. I've gathered some looms, yarn, and tools to show you everything I use in order to make the pieces you see in my shop.

Using looms is a lot of fun. I make all kinds of different projects on them. Bags, scarves, eyeglass cases, headbands, shawls, and coasters - I have made all of these and have them for sell in my shop. I'm always looking at new patterns and learning new techniques for my looms. Any questions about this craft? Just ask!

It was incredibly hot at 101 degrees! Luckily we managed to escape most of the heat by browsing indoor exhibits and attractions. We ate lots of food, saw some animals, did tons of walking, and saw Scotty McCreery perform. Here are some pictures from the day...
Who doesn't love a fun and easy art project? I love to paint and draw but this project is something anyone can do. You really don't need any artistic abilities whatsoever. As long as you can handle a hot glue gun and a hairdryer, you're good to go!

Canvas (I used 18x24 Stretched Canvas)

Crayons (I bought 2 64-packs. The amount depends on your size of canvas)

Hot glue gun + glue

Hair dryer

Make sure to protect the surface you're working on. Mine splattered a little here and there. Also you'll want to use something to hold the canvas upright. I have an easel but you could even find something to lean it against.

For the crayons, I picked out the browns, grays, blacks, etc. and doubled up most of the other colors. I didn't use all of them.

To Create Your Masterpiece:

There are really only two steps to this project once you have everything set up.

1. Glue the crayons to the top of the canvas pointing down. You might want to line them up before you start and in the color scheme you want them to be.

That's how simple it is! It might take awhile to melt the crayons enough to achieve the effect you want. For mine it took about 30 minutes. There isn't a specific way to use the hair dryer - just point it downward!

I love how this turned out and I'll be hanging it up on my wall immediately!

Who knew you could dress up a beer bottle and add it to your decor?! I was browsing through Pinterest and discovered an idea to wrap glass bottles with yarn. I have tons of yarn but I thought hemp cord was better suited for this particular project. I used my left over hemp cord from this project. Read on to find out how I made this:

Supplies:

An empty beer bottle (or you can use any other glass bottles)

Hemp cord

Hot glue gun + glue

Buttons (I got mine from Walmart in a little pack for under $2!)

Ribbon

First, you'll want to make sure you have all of your supplies and a covered surface to work on. You might need to drink a beer down real quick so you have an empty bottle to work with - I promise won't tell!

I took the labels off of mine so I had a clean surface to work with. Peel off as much of the label as you can. Then get it wet and scrub off the rest. It comes off pretty easily.

Next you'll want to start gluing down the hemp. I started mine from the top of the bottle and only glued down a little at a time since the hot glue dries quickly. This part was pretty time consuming so don't hesitate to take a few breaks! You want to make sure the cord is glued down tight and close together so you don't see the bottle or glue.

Once the full bottle is covered you can then start adding the buttons (or anything else you may want to add - sequins, seashells, stones, beads, etc.). I used the hot glue to glue these in a random pattern at the bottom of the bottle.

The last step is to tie on a ribbon on the bottom of the neck and you're done!

You now have a simple yet cute and unique decor piece!

Can't you imagine something similar used at a wedding? Too cute!

This was a fun little project and I basically had all of the supplies for it project already. It's very inexpensive and doesn't require any fancy tools or special skills. Just be careful you don't burn yourself on the hot glue.

Are you going to try this project? What would you add to your bottle?

I admit, I've neglected this blog for awhile and it's because I have been focusing on my other blog. But now I have an update about my shop! I started loom weaving awhile ago and have been adding in woven pieces to my inventory lately. You can see a few of them below:

These items are so fun to make and ideal for summer. I plan to make more and offer more color choices but I'm still loom knitting as well. I have two knitted bags that I'm working on and will be listed soon.
For now, I'm letting my scarf listings expire - they will return this fall along with more colorful scarves and headbands!

How do you like the new items? Let me know in the comments!Ashleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12526305083976657917noreply@blogger.com1
